Hi friends! It’s been too long since I’ve been able to sit down and write something, let alone play a game of Scythe. Things in life have chilled out a bit so I’m going to be getting back into posting, and I’d like to kick that off with a life update post. I’ve always wanted a category of posts called “Table Talk” where I let you know what’s going on with me and my family, and you guys can do the same. Just like friends gathered around a table for a game!
So back in January, I moved my family back to Oregon from California. We initially landed at my parent’s house, but we ended up moving again after just 2 weeks for work reasons. We were living on the north coast of Oregon and that was going really well! However, we very quickly found ourselves unemployed due to the state-wide stay at home orders. Covid-19 has really shaken things up for us! We hung out for about a month because we already had rent paid but ultimately ended up moving back in with my parents.
Things are going really well living with my parents! They live out in the country and my boys are having a blast enjoying the outdoors. I’m also enjoying myself as I’m no longer going stir crazy because I am helping my dad with a substantially backlogged honey-do list. I have no idea if unemployment will come through, I’ve been waiting to hear about it for several weeks now. It also seems unlikely that I’ll be able to return to work as a massage therapist for a couple of months, but that’s guesswork on my part.
Anyway, we are making the best of it and are very grateful that we have a place to go during this time. I’m hoping to have a bit more idle time to play some Scythe after I work through this list of chores.
Rise of Fenris Spoiler Below
A strategy post for Vesna is coming up next, and Fenris after that. I’m also planning on writing a “Table Talk” post once a week to update you guys and stay connected. I’d love to hear in the comments about how you are all fairing during this pandemic. Are you all going stir crazy at home? Are many of you having to educate your own children now? Let me know if there is anything you need thought and prayer for!
Much love and stay well,
The Daily Scythe

April 26, 2020 at 8:04 pmAwesome man! Glad to hear things are going well after a lot of upheaval. Been playing way more Scythe during Covid-19 than in the past and working from home, so definitely can’t complain considering many others are so much less fortunate.
I hit you up on email a while back, I was curious if you’d ever want any guest writers or some help fleshing out more strategies for all the faction and mat combos (base game and IFA). If so, I’d love to throw my hat in the ring, and if not, that’s totally fine.
Thanks for taking the time to have a fun site!

April 27, 2020 at 4:11 pmRight on Norman! Have you adjusted well to the work at home life? I would definitely be interested in guest writers for faction/mat combos. I never got your email, so I’m glad you asked again here because it shed light on the fact that my contact form was no longer working haha. Try contacting me again via the form and we can talk more 🙂

April 19, 2020 at 7:11 amHello Jacob, I appreciate what you are doing in this blog and I am very happy to see you posting again.
My sympathy for your current hardships and I hope you and your family overcome this situation. I am having a similar situation, except I am stuck in Istanbul with my wife stuck in France.
I discovered Scythe with the start of the quarantine so I only play the digital edition, but I was so happy when I found your blog and read every article. Keep up the good work.

April 19, 2020 at 3:26 amHey Jacob, I recently came across your blog and I really enjoy the content. I got Scythe a couple months ago and recently got Invaders from Afar and the Rise of Fenris. Since being in quarantine I’ve played with the automa a decent amount and have really enjoyed the expansions and am excited for your upcoming strategies for Vesna and Fenris. I’ve enjoyed these factions and am looking forward to being able to use them with friends. I’m sorry about the affect COVID-19 has had on your family but I’m glad ya’ll are doing ok and getting to enjoy the outdoors! Anyways, I just wanted to say that I like what you’re doing and am excited for future content!

April 19, 2020 at 5:38 amHi Cade, Stoked to hear you are enjoying the content! Good choices on the expansions. Have you had the opportunity to play through the campaign for Rise of Fenris? It really blew me away the first time! Stay well, and I hope you get to play with friends soon!
